We arrived at Arenal Backpackers Hostel around noon from Monteverde. The place is actually more like a resort...pool, sports, really nice rooms, and great service! Kate, Shawna, Demetri, and I picked up another friend on our bus ride to La Fortuna; Shawn (also from Canada) to add to our group and we all went to La Fortuna Waterfall for a swim. The hike into the falls alone is quite spectacular. Instead of getting a cab back to our hostel we decided to walk back, which took about an hour and a half.

I really liked the walk/jog/run back... we got some coconut water, Shawn did some juggling, we took some amazing photos with the Volcano (which is rare because its usually so cloudy).

When we got back to the hostel, our group and some other friends we met at the hostel played volleyball in the pool and drank some Four Loko's (Shawna and Demetri's idea). We all tried walking across the type rope over the pool, it was SO hard and the only person who made it across was Chris, a guy we met from Georgia. For the rest of the night we played a huge game of volleyball on the grass court...we must have played for three hours!! Mine and Shawna's competitive side came out and we kicked some butt ;)

The next day we went white water rafting and our friend Joe from England came along!!

This excursion is CRAZY FUN!!! Probably one of the most thrilling things I did in Costa Rica! We did this tour through the hostel. Our guides were really friendly and helpful, however our rafting guide did hide in the woods and jump out and scare the beejesus out of Shawna and me!! We were all pretty scared at the start, but we were pro's by the end of it :) Our guides Christian and Eddor let us go swimming in the river at some points, which was nice and refreshing. It is REALLY important though to listen to what the guide says, Eddor made a joke for me to go to the front of the raft and "ride the bull" and Demetri though he said we could swim again...he jumped in the river to swim just as we were approaching some rapids and he ended up going down over the entire thing!! It was so dangerous. Demtri got really banged up over the rocks, we were all so happy he was okay but we were a bit skeptical they let him go down over the rapids like that. Our raft did break about halfway through, so we didn't have anywhere to secure our feet. How we all managed to stay in the raft is still beyond me!

After the rafting was over our guides took us to an all organic farm for lunch, coffee, and a small tour (we had no idea this was included). We helped make juice from a sugar cane, tried Costa Rican moonshine, and ate sugarcane candy. Our guides were lots of fun and kept us smiling!

That night Shawna, Kate, Demetri, and I went to Baldi Hot Springs to relax. There are about 20 different pools with different temperatures. The hottest pool was forty-seven degrees...bit to hot for me! There were also three water slides!! We didn't know at he time but the first slide we went down was actually one of the craziest slides in Costa Rica (the world in my opinion)!! All the same we made it back to the hostel alive and chilled out on the common couches. We went to bed quite early that night and took the 5 am shuttle to Tamarindo <3
